Crotchy was feeling a bit bitchy while taking this photo...Last night I finally got around to watching the Super Chef Battle from Sunday's Iron Chef America. And Batali Lost? Batali never loses! Does it count because it was as a team and not as an individual? Emeril must have brought him down. On the plus side, it's good to see the White House supporting such good cuisine and, I'm sure, wine too. Because, politics aside, the Bush White House wasn't too enlightened with their wine selections.
Tonight we have the 2007 Scheid Vineyards Odd Lot Red from Monterey. This is another one that Crotchy opened while I was at work, but this time most of the bottle is left for my consumption. She picked this bottle up at the winery while she was in the area last month.
Speaking of work... a disheartening story to share. Now, the actual name of the company that I work for shall remain nameless, but it is large enough to have an elaborate corporate structure. An email came down from one of the much-higher-ups that directed that we "DO NOT EXCEPT" delivery of a certain product. It makes me sad to know that someone, who most likely has some kind of college degree, can coast through life without having a basic understanding of homonyms, or actually grammar in general (he's made many mistakes like this before, i.e. "loose" when he meant "lose").
This is further whimsy... I mention this (and any future mentioning of email grammar) because, although there's the corporate structure, we're all close and it's all in jest. We cool. But the lesson here is please use proper grammar and I won't have to call you out for the sake of said whimsy. :-D
Now that I'm done covering my behind... ruby/purple color on this one... the website for the winery doesn't reveal much about this wine except that it's a blend of six different varietals. Based on the other red wines that they sell, I'm guessing that this is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah, grenache, petite sirah, and sangiovese. Blackberry jam aroma comes out first, followed by some raspberries, cassis, and a little smoked meat . Ooh, this wine is juicy... fairly high acid (which gets those salivary glands pumping). Blackberry, blueberry, vanilla... and that's about it for flavors. The mouthfeel and overall flavor, however, reminds me of syrah, so that must be the grape that makes up the majority of the blend. Cab or merlot seems to be in second place. Like yesterday's wine, one good for popping, pouring, and enjoying wihout much thought, although I don't feel that it's worth the price Crotchy paid for it.
Stay tuned... I have no plans for tomorrow and I may just open another bottle within the next couple hours for tomorrow's post.
